Doctor who qualified in China is struck off after repeated incompetence [BMJ 2019-2-26]

• A trainee doctor who scored some of the lowest marks ever seen by his General Medical Council ("GMC") clinical performance assessor has been struck off the UK medical register.
• Haseeb Azam left the UK to train in China and qualified from Weifang Medical College, in Shandong province, in 2014, after which he returned to the UK and obtained provisional GMC registration. He went back to China for a year to undertake a clinical attachment before again returning to the UK and obtaining full GMC registration.

Trainee doctor at Antrim hospital struck off for incompetence [the Irish Post 2019-2-22]

• A trainee doctor who was unable carry out simple examinations of patients, request diagnostic tests or prescribe drugs accurately at Antrim Area Hospital has been struck off.
• A Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) also found that Haseeb Azam could not perform basic lifesaving techniques at the hospital since arriving in December 2016.
• Dr Azam trained in China, obtaining his medical degree from Weifang Medical University in Shandong province in 2014.
• He obtained full registration with the GMC after spending a further year in China, where he undertook a clinical attachment.
