Nomination of MCHK member

Dear Professor,

It has come to our attention that a certain university representative of the Hong Kong Medical Council (“MCHK”) has served the council beyond the recommended period of six years. We write to urge the University to comply with the “Six-year, Six-board rule” and nominate appropriate members to ensure healthy turnover of members.

The MCHK, being one of the statutory bodies of the Hong Kong Government, has the obligation to comply with the prevailing policy “Six-year, Six-board rule” laid down by the Home Affairs Bureau:
  • "Six-year Rule" means not appointing a non-official member to serve on the same body in the same capacity for more than six years to ensure a healthy turnover of members of advisory and statutory bodies.

There is no doubt that the university representatives in the MCHK are respectable, experienced and committed medical doctors who are willing to serve the public and professional community. However, it is also essential that the university demonstrates fairness and ensure that other distinguished members of the Faculty of Medicine have equal opportunities to serve the profession through the MCHK.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. David LUNG and Dr. Pierre CHAN
