HKAM's responses to the Government’s proposal to amend the Medical Registration Ordinance (Update - 7 June 2017)
Dear Fellows,
Further to my earlier email (dated 25 May 2017), I would like to update you that we have scheduled a meeting tomorrow (8 June 2017) with all College Presidents to discuss the nomination and election mechanism for the Academy’s representatives in the Medical Council of Hong Kong. We shall recap and ascertain the consensus on the general principles and stance in this matter among our Colleges. Your College will also communicate with you to seek your opinions. The Academy Council will further consider all the suggestions and discuss the issue in future Council meetings before determining and implementing the relevant nomination / election mechanism. We shall keep you posted on any developments.
The Academy and Colleges would like to listen to you and know your thoughts. Your views are most welcomed.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Fellows,
HKAM's responses to the Government’s proposal to amend the Medical Registration Ordinance
The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM) noted the Government’s latest proposal to amend the Medical Registration Ordinance. In regard to the two HKAM representatives in the Medical Council of Hong Kong (MCHK), the HKAM Council shall further work with the Colleges and you to review the nomination and election process. The importance of equality across different Colleges is one of the key considerations. The HKAM has been playing a unique role in the MCHK, striving to ensure the quality and standards of medical specialists in Hong Kong.
During the meetings of the Tripartite Platform, we have also suggested an increase in the representation of the HKAM, with our statutory role in ensuring standards, so that we could support the work of the MCHK in a more effective manner.
We welcome and appreciate your views on this issue. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any enquiries.
Yours sincerely,

My questions are:
- Does HKAM to represent you, as one of 7300+ HKAM fellows, in the Medical Council?
- Does HKAM ensure the quality and standard of medical practitioners in HK, in recent medical incidents and Medical Council inquiries?
- Do you agree HKAM to support the Government's proposal at this stage?
- Do you agree HKAM to publicize the statement on behalf of fellows?
